Hedychium Ellipticum (min5C). Requires half sun to half shade, rich, moist soil. Ideal for borders. The leaves are deep green and has displays of fragrant flowers produced abundantly through late summer and autumn. Native to India. Suitable for USDA zones 8 to 11, the plant will survive light frosts but must be dug up and stored somewhere dry when hard winter frosts bed in. Supplied as an established small plant in a 0.5ltr pot - 11cm.
Grow in humus-rich, fertile, moist but well-drained soil in full/ part sun. Choose a warm position sheltered from cold winds and give a deep winter mulch. In hard frosts lift the rhizomes and store somewhere dry until spring.An alternative is to grow it in a large container on a warm, sunny patio and to overwinter indoors or under glass.
