Commonly known as cream garland-lily or yellow ginger, it grows up to 2.5 metres high. It is extremely shade tolerant, and thrives in a wide range of soils.
Hedychium flavescens is a perennial flowering plant from the Zingiberaceae (the ginger family). It is native to the Himalayas, Sichuan, and northern Vietnam, and naturalized in various other lands (South Africa, Madagascar, Mauritius, India, Sri Lanka, French Polynesia, Hawaii, etc.)
Suitable for USDA zones 8 to 11, the plant will survive light frosts but must be dug up and stored somewhere dry when hard winter frosts bed in.
Supplied as an established small plant in a 0.5ltr pot - 11cm.

Grow in humus-rich, fertile, moist but well-drained soil in full/ part sun. Choose a warm position sheltered from cold winds and give a deep winter mulch. In hard frosts lift the rhizomes and store somewhere dry until spring.An alternative is to grow it in a large container on a warm, sunny patio and to overwinter indoors or under glass.
