The attractive tropical foliage is topped late in the season with beautiful, delicate and fragrant flowers in various shades of white and orange. Full sun in rich soil with abundant moisture during the growing season. Mulch with fallen leaves in winter. In colder regions grow in a pot or store in dry peat moss and keep above zero. Suitable for USDA zones 8 to 11, the plant will survive light frosts but must be dug up and stored somewhere dry when hard winter frosts bed in. Grow in humus-rich, fertile, moist but well-drained soil in full/ part sun. Choose a warm position sheltered from cold winds and give a deep winter mulch. In hard frosts lift the rhizomes and store somewhere dry until spring.An alternative is to grow it in a large container on a warm, sunny patio and to overwinter indoors or under glass.
